What is a Loc Detox?
A loc detox is a treatment that removes product buildup from the scalp, new growth, and locs. This is also referred to as the “Build Up Buster” Detox.
Your locs will be soaked with a combination of natural products that I will mention below.
This helps to break down any unwanted substances trapped in your locs that can’t be removed with conventional wash day products such as shampoo and conditioner.
Who should get a Loc Detox?
You should not be getting a loc detox often, and to be quite honest, I wouldn’t recommend getting a loc detox done unless you are in dire need. This service is highly recommended for:
Those who have gone a long time without maintenance.
Those with a large amount of product buildup.
Those who have mildew buildup.
Those who work in construction or with a large amount of dust particles.
I have seen many extreme cases of locs and there are visible telltale signs of when a loc detox is needed. Trust me, you will be able to see it.

How is a Loc Detox done?
Everyone has their way of carrying out a loc detox, however, at The Loc God Salon, we have mastered our very own methodologies. With our process, we have found the best results.
This system takes around 30 to 45 minutes, after completing, we wash with Loc God Shampoo and Conditioner. These products are the best to use because they restore all the moisture and softness that would have been stripped away from your locs with such a powerful treatment as a Loc Detox.
How Often should you get a loc detox?
Like I’ve said multiple times, I would never recommend getting a loc detox often. It’s simply too harsh on your locs. I also would never suggest a loc detox more than once within one year.
If you are finding that you are getting buildup often then you should take a look at the products you are using in your locs or your loc routine.
What Loc Products Should you use?
I would steer clear of thick hair products like beeswax or thick castor oils. These are a recipe for consistence buildup trapped in your locs. They are just too thick and the viscosity levels are high.
Your retwist should be done with a strong hold but lightweight product. I’d recommend using this Loc Gel or if you want to be on the safe side us a Loc Jelly.
They are formulated in a way that is thin enough to be used in locs, where your hair shafts will be tightly packed to each other.

Keep it simple! You can’t go wrong with that. With over 4000 clients with locs and over 200k customers, it’s safe to say The Loc God formula works. The basic idea is to clean, moisturize, seal, and protect.
Clean - I suggest washing your locs every 2-3 weeks (for those with matured locs). For those with starter locs I’d advise having a professional handle this for you to prevent your locs from unraveling. Shampoo twice and don’t forget to use conditioner!
Moisturize - A gentle water-based mist is a must for everyday use, especially when you have locs. This Loc God Hydration Mist is the best by far. Aloe Vera Juice and vegetable use are infused. Any professional loc salon offers a loc detox service. However, if you are in the New York or New Jersey region I would highly recommend The Loc God Salon as it’s simply the best in that region.
For those who would like to attempt to do a loc detox at home, there are multiple kits sold online but they just aren’t as effective as using ACL, baking soda, and lemon juice.
